ART FOR RIGHTS – HAKLAR İÇİN SANAT
PUNTA GENÇLİK VE SPOR KULÜBÜ DERNEĞİ (PUNTA YOUTH AND SPORTS CLUB ASSOCIATION)
13 – 19 Decmbrie 2012, Izmir, Turcia
“Art for Rights” is a long-term youth democracy project which aims to provide a space for young people to discuss on human rights from their own perspective and to increase awareness on human rights issues.
This amazing project took place in the city known in Turkey as “Beautiful Izmir” which lies on the coast of the Aegean Sea. Izmir is the third largest city in Turkey with more than 3 million inhabitants. It is a very dynamic city in terms of arts and culture and also has an important architectural heritage derives from the times of the Ancient Greeks, Roman and Ottoman empires.
The participants from VIDEOCOMMUNITY (Italy), CDCD (Romania) and MAYS & PUNTA (Turkey) were made aware of the human rights issues, were shown which mechanisms have been created for human rights, what kind of a role they can take by expressing their ideas about human rights through art and what impact they can create on people about human rights.
We, the participants from CDCD – Center for Sustainable Community Development, learned many new and useful things and were for the first time reporters, we learned about the making of documentaries, animation and most of all, we developed personal, interpersonal, social, organizational and cultural skills while learning about human rights by using creative and innovative tools, methods and approaches.
We cannot wait to share the result with our local authorities, national NGO’s and friends and show them that voluntary work is the best gift one can receive and also give.
Thank you, Punta Youth and Sports Club Association (http://www.punta.org.tr ) for making it all possible!
